What is the history of deviled eggs?

Have you ever thought about the origination of the deviled eggs recipe? Before we dive into this famous egg recipe, I would love to share with you a little history about this recipe.

Deviled eggs roots go back to ancient Rome where they were served as a first course meal to wealthy patricians. For centuries, throughout the Europe, this hors d’oeuvres was referred to as “stuffed eggs,” “mimosa eggs,” or “salad eggs.” In the United States, it made its appearance in the cookbooks in mid 19th century. The “devil” term was used to indicate the hot ingredients in the original deviled eggs recipes.

Now, we use “deviled eggs” term to describe stuffed eggs without considering that the recipe must be spicy. Many of the home cooks and professional chefs around the world experiment with different creative fillings to make delicious deviled eggs — including caviar, beets, pickles, dill, crab meat, herring, wasabi and cod liver among many others.

What are the benefits of eating eggs?

Eggs contain a huge amount of nutrients, without which normal human function would be challenging. One large boiled egg contains 6 grams of protein, which makes it a perfect Keto diet food. This invaluable product contains: vitamins, fats, folic acid, iodine, selenium, iron and other healthy nutrients. Our digestive system can completely absorb eggs with all of its nutrients.

Recipe Notes

My favorite way to make boiled eggs is in the electric egg cooker with automatic shut off feature. Egg cooker comes with an easy cooking instructions, and within 5 minutes I get perfectly cooked eggs. To peel off egg shells more easily, place cooked eggs in an ice cold water and let them cool for five minutes. Serve your eggs on a deviled egg serving platter and store your eggs in a tight deviled egg storage container.

Store eggs in a refrigerator in a deviled egg storage container with a tight lid for up to a week.
