Have you ever thought about the origination of the deviled eggs recipe? Before we dive into this famous egg recipe, I would love to share with you a little history about this recipe.
Deviled eggs roots go back to ancient Rome where they were served as a first course meal to wealthy patricians. For centuries, throughout the Europe, this hors d’oeuvres was referred to as “stuffed eggs,” “mimosa eggs,” or “salad eggs.” In the United States, it made its appearance in the cookbooks in mid 19th century. The “devil” term was used to indicate the hot ingredients in the original deviled eggs recipes.
Now, we use “deviled eggs” term to describe stuffed eggs without considering that the recipe must be spicy. Many of the home cooks and professional chefs around the world experiment with different creative fillings to make delicious deviled eggs — including caviar, beets, pickles, dill, crab meat, herring, wasabi and cod liver among many others.

Eggs contain a huge amount of nutrients, without which normal human function would be challenging. One large boiled egg contains 6 grams of protein, which makes it a perfect Keto diet food. How to make Keto deviled eggs?
Keto Deviled Eggs
Delicious Keto deviled eggs recipe – perfect for breakfast or as a Keto appetizer.
- 4 eggs
- 4 ounces smoked salmon
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp sour cream
- 1 tsp fresh cut parsley
- 1/4 tsp lemon zest
- 1/8 tsp Pinch of Himalayan salt
Hard boil 4 eggs (this will make 8 deviled eggs).
Peel off the shells and cut each egg in half.
From each half take out the yolk with teaspoon and put it in the mixing bowl.
Mix egg yolk with fork and set aside one tablespoon of crumbles to sprinkle on top of the smoked salmon, if desired.
Add mayonnaise, sour cream, salt and pepper to the egg yolks and mix it all together to create nice and smooth consistency. (NOTE: Keep in mind that smoked salmon that will go on top of the eggs will most likely be salty. If you don’t want your stuffed eggs to be salty, you may want to remove or reduce adding salt to the egg yolk mix.)
Spoon the egg yolk filling into the hollowed egg whites.
Cut salmon slices into rectangles and place them of top of deviled eggs.
Sprinkle crumbled egg yolk, lemon zest and freshly cut parsley on top of the deviled eggs.
My favorite way to make boiled eggs is in the electric egg cooker with automatic shut off feature. Egg cooker comes with an easy cooking instructions, and within 5 minutes I get perfectly cooked eggs. To peel off egg shells more easily, place cooked eggs in an ice cold water and let them cool for five minutes. Serve your eggs on a deviled egg serving platter and store your eggs in a tight deviled egg storage container.
Store eggs in a refrigerator in a deviled egg storage container with a tight lid for up to a week.
